House Music all night long

Most people don't believe me when I tell them the first bands that I saw live, the first music that I listended to was in my metal days seeing Sepultura, Sacred Reich down at Rock City in Nottingham. I loved the mosh pit on a Friday night but surprisingly no one else shared my mixed tastes of house music from the likes of Mister E, Grim Reaper to rap from Public Enemy, NWA and Tim Dog.

It wasn't until a few years later that I finally persuaded friends to join me in going to the local house clubs and warehouses and then it was just a matter of raising the cash to buy my first decks so I could play the records that we heard over the weekend. From there you start playing at friends parties and from there you start playing out.

Moving down to London to be with my then girlfriend, now wife meant more parties to go to and more invites to play out. Millenium Eve was a big one except that the amp blew up at 1am and by the time it was fixed and I was up..I was in no state to play. That didn't stop friends asking me back to play at their monthly night in Soho at the Sun and 13 Cantons which has got to be one of the best nights ever...one of those nights when everything you played just when down a storm.

The music these days has mellowed, playing funky and US house but I just can't help moving that BPM higher to play something heavier once I get going. The record box is being replaced by the hard drive and the decision to make is whether Slayer moves over from vinyl to mp3 along with Alison Limerick and Robert Owens..........an interesting combination for the studio perhaps?
